“Thousands of candles can be lighted from the
flame of one candle….” --Mahatma Gandhi
As an educator, you are a powerful candle-- igniting and fueling the flames of your students, your colleagues, and your community. Flames that spread beyond the classroom and spill into the world.
But what lights your flame? If you're like us, it's probably when you see your students' eyes sharpen and their cheeks redden because they are so immersed in doing something they love: making something, growing something, playing with something, helping someone, discovering something amazing. So why can't PD be more like that? Why is it all wordy powerpoints and weak coffee? PD should be an Experience, not a mandatory meeting. In this online space you have a choice between several Experiences, each hosted by an amazing educator. Each Experience guides you in doing cool stuff in your class and provides you with ideas and materials that have ignited the passions of our own students. An experience is about what happens in this online space AND your classroom, so it's very important that you share how it's going in the classroom with the other teachers in each Experience. See what these ideas look like in other classrooms, and get support when you need it the most: connecting IS ALSO learning! The kind of collaboration that makes this PD an Experience cannot happen without certain tech tools. Take a look at the tools you will be invited to use in each Experience: they are beyond cool, AND, most importantly, each of them will hopefully add something valuable to your own learning. Get set up with your community! Thank you for helping us learn! This is still an experiment; we're testing out our own assumptions about what teacher professional learning can and should be. That means that these experiences have been intentionally created as rough drafts, and we need your help to make them work for teachers. If you see something that could be better or clearer-- tell us! We're asking two main questions:
We are so excited to learn with you and from you! |
